Charoite is crafted in Russia and has recently gained great popularity as a gemstone. In gemstone healing, it is regarded as a stone for drive, a sense of order and for dealing with unfinished business, and is also often used for support and in times of great change. Astrology assigns Charoite to Virgo.

The name Charoite is derived from the place where it was found near the Russian river Chara. The German name Tscharoit would actually be more correct, but this has not caught on in the retail or wholesale trade. Occasional spellings such as chaoirt, caroite, charoid or charoiet, on the other hand, are not correct.
