Kimberlite is the parent rock of the Diamond! It is a volcanic rock breccia with the components Serpentine, Phlogopite, Pyroxenes, Rutile and Garnet. Kimberlite shows various shades of gray-green with black to olive-green spots and structures, sometimes with white veins.

Kimberlite was named after the South African city of Kimberley; spellings such as kimbalite, kumbalite or kimberlite, which are occasionally encountered in retail and wholesale, are therefore incorrect. A synonym for kimberlite that is not in use today is blue ground.
