Nuummit is an Anthophyllite-Gendrite-Slate and belongs to the amphiboles.
The name of the mineral is derived from the place where it was found, Nuuk (Greenland). Due to its rarity, Nuumite is also called opal of the north. Another spelling is nuummit.
