Even in ancient China, Gemstone Combs were worn in the hair as jewelry and to increase well-being. To this day, comb-like gemstone scrapers are used as a household remedy in traditional Chinese medicine. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), flat massage stones with prongs are also known as bian stones. The combs are also used in Monika Grundmann's Gemstone Balance.

According to the international nomenclature, the mineralogically correct name for Onyx Marble is Calcite-Aragonite or Aragonite-Calcite, whereas Onyx Marble (Aragonite Calcite) is the common trade name. Other names commonly used in retail and wholesale are calconyx, calcite-alabaster, ribbon marble, aragonite marble, chalcedonyx or marble onyx. The spelling onix marble, however, is not correct.
