Petroleum quartz is a special form of Rock Crystal: During the formation of the crystal between
65 to 200 million years ago, small droplets of petroleum and sometimes also small methane gas bubbles were trapped in the stone.
If you look at the petroleum quartz under UV light, the inclusions fluoresce and thus the whole gemstone
the whole gemstone fluoresce in fascinating blue-purple hues.
Under special conditions, Points form on both sides of the crystal during the Occurrence of Rock Crystal. This shape is named after the original localities in
Herkimer (New York, USA) Herkimer quartz.
