Pretty hot: beta quartz
These very special quartz crystals have arrived from West Java (Indonesia): Beta quartz, also known as high quartz, Occurs at temperatures above 573° C. Typical are the hexagonal dipyramids, i.e. two small hexagonal pyramids whose bases lie on top of each other.
Thanks to their special forming conditions and shape, beta quartz crystals are just as well suited for energetic work, e.g. directing energies, as are double-enders. Experience the fascination of these unusual quartz crystals for yourself!
Beta quartz is not formally considered a mineral in its own right, as the high form of quartz with a hexagonal structure is not stable at room temperature. In fact, the collected crystals are paramorphous formations of beta quartz after quartz. Paramorphosis describes the ability of some minerals to exist in different crystalline forms, depending on the forming conditions, with the same chemical composition: e.g. Aragonite-Calcite or Beta-Quartz/Quartz.
Paramorphoses play an important role as geological thermometers or barometers, e.g. in the transformation of high quartz into low quartz. Thus, when high quartz cools below 573ºC, trigonal low quartz is formed, which can, however, remain in the outer hexagonal form of the high quartz. Therefore, if quartz with the characteristics of the hexagonal symmetry of high quartz is found in rocks, it can be concluded that the temperature of the rock must have been higher than 573ºC when it was formed.
