The Canadian Fairy Stones were formed approx. 10,000 years ago at the bottom of large glacial lakes and consist mainly of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), i.e. calcite. The unusual shapes, which appear to have been created by an artist, are exclusively the work of Mother Nature.
The Fairy Stones are found in a very lonely area on the beach of some lakes in Abitibi, near Quebec in eastern Canada. The stones are not treated, but simply carefully cleaned of sand and dirt by hand.
