Kuan Yin is a female bodhisattva of compassion in East Asian Mahayana Buddhism, but is also worshipped as a goddess in popular belief. As one of the most revered figures in East Asian Buddhism, she is found numerous times in iconography, texts, and practiced religion.
In Buddhism, Kuan Yin is the goddess of compassion, togetherness and unrestricted love. In the beginning of times, Kuan Yin lived with all creatures on earth. She showed them how to treat each other and how they should treat each other. From this conception Kuan Yin also became a symbol for a vegetarian way of life.
