Blue aragonite is also known as oceanite in retail and wholesale. The mineral aragonite was first described in 1796 by the German mineralogist Abraham Gottlob Werner and named after the Localities in the province of Aragon in north-eastern Spain; the spelling arragonite is therefore not correct.
Blue aragonite is very closely related to blue calcite; the two minerals differ in terms of Cleavability, crystal structure and solubility.
