The transparent, light turquoise cuboids of apatite in extra quality are about 4-6mm long and 2-3mm thick.
The total length of the apatite strand (rod.) is about 40cm.

The name apatite is derived from the Greek word "apatáo" meaning "to deceive" and was coined in 1786 by the German mineralogist Abraham Gottlob Werner (1749 - 1817). Since apatite occurs in numerous different forms and colors, there is a great danger that apatite will be confused with another mineral. Spellings like apartith, apathite, apatite, appatite or apatiet are not correct.
