These Rhodochrosite balls have been cut from extra-quality rough: Ortiz quality is used to describe slightly translucent, extra high quality Rhodochrosites.
The balls have a diameter of 5.5mm, the ball strands are 39.5cm long.
Abraham Gottlob Werner (1749-1817) first named the rhodochrosite manganese spar, taking into account its chemical composition and good cleavability. In 1813 Friedrich Hausmann (1782-1859) gave the Rhodochrosite its name "Rhodochrosite" which is still valid today. This is derived from the ancient Greek words "rhodo" (rose) and "chrosite" (color). Spellings like Rhodhocrosite, Rhodochosite, Rhodocrosite, Rodhocrhosite, Rodochrosite or Rodocrosite are therefore not correct. Nowadays obsolete names for the Rhodochrosite are Incaspat/Inkarose, Raspberry spar, Rose spar and Manganese spar.
