The flat cylindrical discs of this gemstone strand of Rhodochrosite have a thickness of about 2-3mm and a diameter of about 4mm, the total length of the strand is about 40cm.
Rhodochrosite is used in stone medicine when a "pick-me-up stone" is needed - the mineral conveys activity, dynamism and cheerfulness, so that the work goes easily from hand.

Abraham Gottlob Werner (1749-1817) first named the rhodochrosite manganese spar, taking into account its chemical composition and good cleavability. In 1813 Friedrich Hausmann (1782-1859) gave the Rhodochrosite its name "Rhodochrosite" which is still valid today. This is derived from the ancient Greek words "rhodo" (rose) and "chrosite" (color). Spellings like Rhodhocrosite, Rhodochosite, Rhodocrosite, Rodhocrhosite, Rodochrosite or Rodocrosite are therefore not correct. Nowadays obsolete names for the Rhodochrosite are Incaspat/Inkarose, Raspberry spar, Rose spar and Manganese spar.
