The balls of Rhodonite have a diameter of about 4mm; the total length of the strand is about 40cm. The balls of the dark pink strand of Rhodonite have hardly any inclusions.

The first scientific description of Rhodonite was made in 1819 by the German naturalist Christoph Friedrich Jasche. The pink color inspired Jasche to name it "Rhodonite," which is derived from the Greek word "rhodon" meaning rose or rose-scented.
