A real gemstone rarity that only reveals its special nature at second glance!
The lenses are approx. 11 x 8 mm in size and show a four-rayed star on the surface. This phenomenon, known as asterism in the technical language of mineralogy, is caused by light reflection from Magnetite inclusions.
The diopside strand is approx. 40cm long; the size of the lenses increases slightly from the two ends towards the middle.
In gemstone healing, star diopside (also known as black star) is used to support spirituality; the mineral promotes an understanding of spiritual, intellectual things beyond material existence.
The name Diopside is derived from the Greek word "dis" (double) and "opsis" (to look at) and indicates that Diopside crystals often occur as Gemini.
The mineral was first described in 1800 by José Bonifácio de Andrada e Silva under the name coccolite, but this name is now considered obsolete. The spelling diopsite has also not become established.
