The flat Lenses are about 21mm long, 14mm wide and 6mm thick; the entire strand is about 40cm long.
Hypersthene got its name from the Greek "hyper" (over) and "stheos" (strength); this refers to the greater hardness compared to the closely related Bronzite. Spellings like hyperstene or hyperstehne are therefore not correct.
In 1988, Hypersthene was renamed Ferrosilite by the International Mineralogical Association. Synonyms for Hypersthene are Augite Bronzite, Iron Anthophyllite, Iron Enstatite, Ferroanthophyllite, Ficinite, Labrador Blende, Paulite, Schillerspat and Szaboite as well as Hyperstein.
