An unusual gemstone for silver jewelry: Hypersthene!
Size of the pendant 2.9 x 2.1cm; the settings and the eyelet are made of highly polished platinum plated silver 925. silver weight 3.6g.
The circular Hypersthene cabochon set in bezel measures 10mm; stone weight 5ct.
Hypersthene gets its name from the Greek "hyper" (over) and "stheos" (strength); this refers to its greater hardness compared to the closely related Bronzite. Spellings like hyperstene or hyperstehne are therefore not correct.

In 1988, Hypersthene was renamed Ferrosilite by the International Mineralogical Association. Synonyms for Hypersthene include augite-bronzite, iron anthophyllite, iron enstatite, ferroanthophyllite, ficinite, labradorblende, paulite, schillerspar and szaboite, and hyperstone.
