The name Eudialyte is made up of the Greek bergs "eu" (good, capable) and "dialytos" (decomposable, decomposable) and refers to the easy fusibility and good acid solubility of the mineral. The common spellings Eudialyth, Eudalith, Eudalyth and Eudialithe are therefore incorrect.
A misleading synonym for eudialite is almandine spar. In Lapland, one of the places where Eudialyte is found, the stone is also called "Blood of the Saami", as legend has it that the stone was formed when the Saami fought a giant on the Kola Peninsula.
