Shellac is a material used for many centuries in the manufacture of gemstone necklaces. The honey-colored Shellac has two major advantages: Its low melting point makes it easy to work with when enameling chain clasps.
Due to the neutral color it is suitable for stone chains with light as well as dark minerals as well as for calottes in silver 925 or silver 925 gold plated - so you only need one color of Shellac instead of white/ivory and dark brown!
100% natural, no imitation!
The Shellac bar is about 8 x 1.5 x 1cm and weighs about 18 grams.
The word "Shellac" is derived from the Dutch terms "schel" (shell, scale" and "lak" (varnish). The spelling Shellac has prevailed over other possible spellings, e.g. Schelac, Shellack or Schellak. Other, sometimes misleading, names for the pearl glue are table varnish, flat varnish, lacca in tabulis, Gummilacka (rubber varnish) and varnish resin.
