The tourmaline family is one of the most fascinating groups in the stone world with an incredible abundance of trace elements and can be found in all colors. Although present only in tiny amounts, iron is responsible for the black color of Tourmaline (black). Johannes Mathesius, a miner and priest from the Saxon Erzgebirge, scientifically examined and described the black Tourmaline found there as early as 1562 and also gave it its name - after its place of discovery, Schorl (today Zschorlau).
