Mojave (Mohave) stone - origin, production and meaning
Origin of the name Mojave Stone
Mojave Stone was named after the Mojave tribe, who used to live in the Mojave Desert. The desert is located in Mojave County in northwestern Arizona; the county seat is Kingman, a famous turquoise discovery site.
Production of Movahe stone
For the mohave stone, small pieces of genuine turquoise and the orange-red mother-of-pearl of the spiny oyster (Spondylus americanus) and traces of copper and brass were intricately combined to create a new jewelry material. With these two gemstones, the mojave stone takes up the coloring and inlay techniques of the jewelry of the North American indigenous population. Each piece of jewelry with mohaw stone is unique, individual in its grain and color combination.
In order to obtain a compact and easy-to-cut material, these valuable components are pressed into blocks under the pressure of a hydraulic press and bonded with resin. The small, somewhat brick-sized blocks of mohave stone can then be sawn open and sanded. The blocks were sanded in our sanding shop in Indonesia. Our experienced cutter carefully hand-cut the rough material into cabochons, which were then processed into the pieces of jewelry.
