Shellac is a material that has been used for many centuries in the manufacture of gemstone necklaces. Honey-colored Shellac has two major advantages: Its low melting point makes it easy to work with when enameling chain clasps.
Its neutral color makes it suitable for stone necklaces with both light and dark minerals as well as for silver 925 or silver 925 gold-plated calottes - so you only need one color of Shellac instead of white/ivory and dark brown!
100% natural, no imitation!
The Shellac bar measures approx. 8 x 1.5 x 1 cm and weighs approx. 18 grams.
The word "Shellac" is derived from the Dutch words "schel" (shell, scale) and "lak" (lacquer). The spelling Shellac has prevailed over other possible spellings, e.g. Schelack, Shellack or Schellak. Other, sometimes misleading, names for pearl glue are table lacquer, flat lacquer, lacca in tabulis, gum lacquer (rubber lacquer) and lacquer resin.
