We deliberately do not use the misleading name Himalayan salt, as Salt for Cooking and chunks are not mined directly in the Himalayas. But this is what the name Himalayan salt suggests.
Origin of the crystal salt from Lapis Vitalis The Alexander salt is quarried with the utmost care in the salt mines of Pakistan's Salt Range. The Salt Range is located in the north-east of Pakistan (Punjab province), about 160 km from Islamabad and 260 km from Lahore. The salt mines around Kehwra are located in a foothill of the Himalayas, but are not directly associated with the Himalayan massif. Alexander salt is therefore also known commercially as Himalayan salt. As the salt is mined underground in salt mines and not extracted from seawater, it is rock salt and not sea salt.
Mining and treatment of rock salt The mined Alexander salt is sorted, washed, ground to various grain sizes, checked for quality and bottled by hand in Pakistan. You only buy pure, natural crystal salt (sodium chloride) from us, which contains no iodine or other ingredients, additives or additives.
