As a purely natural product, salt crystal lamps have been a popular accessory for several decades to positively influence the atmosphere of a room. We have the salt lamps and tealight holders manufactured in a company in Pakistan that mainly employs women who would otherwise hardly have a chance on the labor market. As with our other wholesale products, fair and safe working conditions are also important to us for the salt lamps. By ordering large quantities of salt stone lamps, we can offer attractive purchase prices to our specialist retail customers, from health food stores to furniture stores.
Advantages of salt lamps Salt crystal lamps create a very pleasant and cozy atmosphere in all rooms and spaces thanks to their warm, orange colors. The soft shades of the lamps create a very special atmosphere.
As the salt is very easy to work with, we also offer modern lamp shapes, e.g. cylinders, spheres and drops, in addition to the classic salt rock lamps. This means that there is a suitable salt lamp or salt tea light for every style of furnishing.
The light source heats the salt stone lamps and makes them glow. This allows the salt stones to develop their full effect and improve the room climate through their color. Each salt lamp and each salt tea light is unique in shape and color.
Colors of salt lamps The spectrum of salt lamp colors ranges from (almost) white to orange to dark red-brown. The most common, especially in the case of salt crystal lamps from Pakistan (so-called Himalayan salt lamps), are various shades of orange, which give the room a cozy atmosphere.
The different colors of the salt lamps are caused by different high concentrations of iron in the salt. The more iron it contains, the darker the color of the salt lamp. In many salt stone lamps, one part of the salt crystal has a different hue; these differences are also due to the iron content. The orange color of the salt stone forms a beautiful contrast to the dark brown of the wooden base.
Origin of salt lamps During the first salt lamp boom in the 1990s, the crystal lamps mainly came from Poland. Nowadays, salt lamps are mostly made in the Salt Range in Pakistan, a foothill of the Himalayas. Like crystal salt, salt lamps are often sold under the name Himalayan salt. This regional term Himalayan salt is somewhat misleading, as the salt stones are mined in a foothill of the Himalayas and not in the Himalayas themselves or even on the mountain ranges of the Himalayas. Despite the geographically incorrect designation, the name Himalayan salt or Himalayan salt lamps has become established on the market.
Salt lamps are also made from rock salt mined in Germany, e.g. in Berchtesgaden.
Improving the air and indoor climate Many publications dealing with the (medical) effects of salt crystal lamps state that one of the main advantages of salt lamps, especially those from the Himalayas, is their ability to improve indoor air quality. When the salt lamp is switched on, the salt crystal heats up. This causes the salt to release negative ions that bind dust, allergens and other pollutants from the air, according to the theory. However, practical tests have shown that this is not the case. There are still various claims about the effect of the ions that salt lamps release into the environment and purify the indoor climate with the ions present in the air. However, the pleasant color and the visual effect of salt lamps, which improve the atmosphere of a room, are undisputed.
Suitable rooms and spaces for salt lamps Crystal salt is hygroscopic by nature, i.e. it attracts water and then forms crystals and crusts. In rooms with high humidity, the salt lamps may therefore "weep" when water droplets form on the surface of the salt crystal.
Therefore, only use the salt lamps in dry rooms, e.g. in the living room or bedroom. When operating in damp rooms such as bathrooms or kitchens, there is a risk that the efflorescence of the salt will leave marks on the furniture and, of course, on the wooden base.
Salt lamps are also an attractive option for pleasantly illuminating areas used for massage, meditation or yoga exercises. Many of our wholesale customers have installed salt lamps in their naturopathic practice or yoga studio and receive an attractive additional income from the sale of salt lamps and tea lights.
When choosing a suitable location, the high weight of the salt crystal must always be taken into account, e.g. if children come near the salt lamps.
Prices and purchase of salt lamps Two factors essentially determine the price at which salt lamps are purchased: The size or weight of the lamp body and the electrics (cable, bulb). We offer salt lamps with LED lighting as well as with classic light bulbs. Due to the warm, orange color tones of the salt crystals, the light from the LEDs also has a warm and cozy effect. We order all the light sources and cables for our salt lamps from a German-Italian manufacturer with over 60 years of experience with light sources.
Another factor that can influence the price of the salt lamps is the material of the base. We only offer wooden bases for our salt lamps with bases.
Cleaning salt lamps The easiest way to clean salt lamps is to dust them regularly with a soft cloth or feather duster. Water and moisture should be avoided, as otherwise small crystals will form on the surface of the salt lamp (so-called salt blooming).
Quality of the salt crystal lamps Decisive for the quality of the salt lamps and salt tea lights is the further processing after the extraction of the large raw salt stones. In Gerold Bölts, we have a partner at our side who has traded in salt from Pakistan for over twenty years and has gotten to know the country, the Himalayan mountains and its people intensively through more than 50 trips. Based on this wealth of experience, we have chosen a processing and bottling company whose high quality standards and personnel policy have convinced us.
