The historic slate mine in Lehesten in the Thuringian Forest is one of the oldest and largest open-cast roofing slate mines in Europe. Slate has been mined in Lehesten since the 13th century, split and processed into slate sheets, roof and wall coverings.
In modern stone healing, Pyrite in slate is considered the stone of openness. It helps us not to take ourselves so seriously and to laugh at ourselves from time to time. Negative thoughts can be let go of more easily.
Pyrite in slate is also known as Apache gold in reference to the localities where it is found in the USA. The white bands and areas are mostly quartz, occasionally also calcite.
