Nuggets, splinters and free tumbled stone shapes give your designs a natural look. Usually left in their original form, polished or matt, these stone shapes can break up or create interesting contrasts as a whole necklace with geometric stone or Precious metal elements.
All strands are approx. 38-40 cm long and are strung together for transportation. We recommend always replacing the transport thread with suitable knotting material.
Localities for the Sugilite are near the village of Hotazel in the manganese ore fields of the Kalahari in South Africa.
The first, very small Sugilite finds were made in 1944 by the Japanese professor Ken-ichi Sugi in Ehime Prefecture (Japan). A precise description was not made until a good thirty years later by a group of Japanese mineralogists in 1976, who named it after its discoverer Ken-ichi Sugi. The sometimes encountered spellings sugelite, sugulite or suggilite are therefore incorrect. In the trade, Sugilite is also known as New Age Stone or New Age Stone; a synonym for Sugilite is also Luvulite.
