The name Eudialyte is composed of the Greek terms "eu" (good, capable) and "dialytos" (decomposable, decomposable) and refers to the easy fusibility and good acid solubility of the mineral. The occasional spellings eudalite, eudalyth and eudialite are therefore incorrect.
A misleading synonym for eudialite is almandine spar. In Lapland, one of the places where Eudialyte is found, the stone is also called "Blood of the Saami", as legend has it that the stone was formed when the Saami fought a giant on the Kola Peninsula.
