Sugilite has become an absolute rarity today, as no new material is mined from the only mine in South Africa. From an old batch of rough, we had a whole slew of great drilled stones and donuts cut.
The first, very small Sugilite finds were made in 1944 by the Japanese professor Ken-ichi Sugi in Ehime Prefecture (Japan). A precise description was not made until a good thirty years later by a group of Japanese mineralogists in 1976, who named it after its discoverer, Ken-ichi Sugi.
In trade Sugilite is also called New Age Stone or New Age Stone; a synonym for Sugilite is also Luvulite.
Supporting fidelity to oneself and strengthening one's ability to resolve conflicts is supported by Sugilite's stone healing properties.
