The evening red jasper from Java looks like a sun sinking into the sea. It was found in a former gold mine in Banten Forest in the west of the island of Java. The mine has been closed in the meantime, but the banded rough stones are still extracted by hand in the area. The different colored banding of the evening red jasper is caused by silicate deposits with different iron content; so the Java Sunset Jasper is a classic landscape jasper.
